git add

git add filename
git add .
git add -A

What it does:

  • git add filename — Mark this file for the next commit.
  • git add . — Mark everything in this folder.
  • git add -A — Mark everything in the whole repo.

“Staged” means marked for the next commit. After you add, you run git commit to save.
